What you avoid
Cutting a pineapple with a knife means topping it, standing it up, carving the skin off in strips, going back for the eyes, quartering it and cutting out the core — on a board swimming in juice. This replaces all of that with one downward twist.
How it works
Cut the top off. Centre the corer on the core and turn it down through the fruit. Pull it out and you are holding a spiral of even rings with the core already gone. Slide them off, and cut them into wedges or chunks if you want.
The shell is the point for a lot of people
Because the skin is never cut away, what’s left is a clean pineapple shell. It serves fruit, salad or a drink, and it is the reason this tool ends up out on a table rather than in a drawer.
Not the right tool if…
You want pineapple cut flat for a grill, or your fruit is unusually wide or narrow — the blade is a fixed diameter and works on most pineapples, not all of them. For one pineapple a year, a knife is fine.
Registered, it carries our lifetime warranty. Two minutes, and it’s ours to replace.
