What this is
A stand for an apple slicer. The apple sits in it, the slicer goes down through the apple, and the base takes the force instead of your other hand. It is sold separately because people lose them, break them, or buy a second one for a second kitchen.
Why it is worth having
Without a base you hold the apple with one hand and press with the other, and the apple rolls. That is how slices come out uneven and how people cut themselves. With it, both hands are on the handles and the fruit cannot move.
In the drawer
The slicer sits in the base when it is put away, which covers eight blades that otherwise face whatever your hand reaches for next.
Not the right tool if…
You do not already own an apple slicer. On its own this base does nothing — it is an accessory, not a cutter. Our apple slicers come with one.
Registered, it carries our lifetime warranty. Two minutes, and it’s ours to replace.
