Instant-read, not leave-in
This is a thermometer you take a reading with, not one you leave in the oven. You open the door, check, and close it again. The display switches itself off after about ten minutes idle.
Why ±1° is the number that matters
On a chicken breast the window between done and dry is a few degrees wide. A thermometer that is “about right” puts you on the wrong side of it often enough to matter. Two or three seconds and one degree is the whole point of the tool.
It is not only for meat
−58°F to 572°F is wider than meat needs, and that is deliberate: sugar work, frying oil, milk for coffee and the bath water for a baby are all in range. The probe is stainless and folds 180° into the handle, so it goes in a drawer without a sheath.
Where it lives
A magnet on the back holds it to the oven door or the fridge; there is a hook if you keep tools on a rail. IP67 means a splash of stock or a rinse under the tap does nothing to it.
Not the right tool if…
You want to watch the temperature climb while a brisket sits in the smoker for six hours. That needs a leave-in probe on a cable. This one is for checking fast and getting the door shut again.
